Our Story

How it all started...

It all began when Peter and Angela Sondergeld sensed God’s call to plant a church at Toowoomba Christian College. They went about testing the call and soon realised it was clearly something God wanted them to do. In the beginning, the church started out with three leaders – Peter Sondergeld, Difff Crowther and Nathan Gilmour and had its first Sunday meeting on July 24, 2011. Since then, the church has grown in every way and in February 2022 officially became Restoration Church, residing in our own premises at 11 Moffatt Street, North Toowoomba.

At first, the mission was simply to make disciples for Jesus, but over the years God has grown and matured the vision to one which calls us to be a vibrant community of disciples, where discipleship means being restored to true humanity. Over years we have seen our church community continue to grow steadily and God has brought more pastors, elders and leaders into the fold.

We stand in awe of a God who would use a small church in Toowoomba to make a difference. God seems to have big plans for us. We are all just trying to walk in obedience and faithfully follow God’s leading of us as Restoration Church.

Ephesians 2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Expanding the vision...

Put simply, our vision is a community of restored people who know God, know who they are, and flourish as they live in God's story.

We are broken. We all know that.
But how do you fix a broken human?  You bring them to normality.

What is normal for a human? Being near God.

What we believe...

We believe that the church, which is the body and espoused bride of Christ, is a spiritual organism made up of all born-again persons. That man was created in the image and likeness of God, but that through Adam’s sin the race fell, inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God.

We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross as a representative, vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice, and that our justification is made sure by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead.

We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins.

Who leads us...

At Restoration Church our mission as leaders is to lead the charge on the vision God has given us to be a vibrant community of Jesus followers.

We believe our job is to create a welcoming, caring and outward-focused environment, a place to come, be real and connect to God. A place where the church family is equipped and empowered to minister to each other and the wider community.

We are a passionate team who are excited to see how God will grow His church and us!

We welcome you to be a part of our story...
